After I last got some bits from Dangerousfx I have been hunting around in the “alternative clothing” market to see if there’s anything out there for us fat girls. I’ve made the decision to try and buy some stuff to review from the smaller and more hidden retailers who cater to the plus size woman so that I can help support smaller businesses. I shall continue my hunt over the next few weeks.
Alternative clothing.. It’s not neccessarily my style but I find that there are often quirky and cute items hiding in the Goth/Cyber/Kawaii/Alternative scene which can be worn in conjunction with “normal” clothing to act as an attention grabber, to make an outfit “pop.” I found Alienskin Clothing from Google – simple, I know – about a month or so ago. Seeing as I’ve never bought anything from them before and this is my first time I’ll make it a long-ish review. Oh! And you can pay by Paypal, which is awesome :D
In retrospect the military top/dress doesn’t go with the shrug, so don’t judge my review on that. It’s not the top I’m talking about anyway.

While hunting around there was something that really caught my eye and it was this shrug.
I don’t own many shrugs, in fact, I don’t think I own any because I find them BORING. And now that winter is coming I thought I’d get something with long sleeves so that I can continue wearing my sleeveless dresses without freezing to death. I got all excited when I realised it had a hood aswell (I’m so sad.) I think I must have put the order in about three weeks ago, but because they’re custom made to your own colours and trim I thought it’d be worth the wait. That, and the price really isn’t too bad for something you can get made to your own specifications.

There was one thing that annoyed me though, sizes 6 – 16 are £2 cheaper than sizes 18 – 30 but, from what I gather, Alienskin is sort of just a platform for many different designers to sell in one place. The prices aren’t like that on everything, perhaps it’s just this designer.

I really like the hood. The site says it’s “big hair friendly” which is good, because even though I don’t have ‘big’ hair I have a lot of it, and it’s a pain to try and tuck it all in to a normal hood if it starts raining.

You’ll notice that I got it in GREEN :D And black. It feels kinda witchy but it’s not overwhelming because the stripes are so big and few. I really like the shade of green, I got it in the same shade as the website (Black and Emerald Green.) The exposed stitching is a nice touch without looking cheap. I think the material is a cotton mix, but there’s no label (which is actually quite good, because I find things with hoods often irritate the back of my neck where the label is.) And it’s obviously sewn with love, leaving it with a decent quality finish. I just think it’s really cute.
I also got this skirt;

Same designer, same style. It’s reversable and on the other side you can see green stitching but I prefer it solid black. It’s nothing fancy, just a long black skirt – something I didn’t actually own before now.
There’s actually a lot of stuff, by loads of different designers, that I’d like to try out from there. It’ll have to wait until I have more money though as I’m now officially broke!

In other news.. I go to Bulgaria on Monday morning (REAL morning, it’s like 3am I have to leave,) and I’m away for 9 days. I’ll set up some posts to go up while I’m out there so do check back, my Twitter account show automatically publish the entry there but if it doesn’t I would really appreciate someone sharing my entries instead.
I need to pack, I think I’ll do it on Saturday, I’m off to my Nan’s on Sunday because she’s coming with me and my two cousins. We’re going to see my Dad, his wife and my two little brothers who all moved out there about 5 months ago. Dad lives near a beach so I’ll be taking a swimming costume, some Summer clothes (it’ll be around 30C over there,) and, above all, my camera. You guys will love my little brothers, they’re adorable. I hate packing btw. I don’t know what to bring, STRESS.
I need to re-dye my hair before I go and sort my fringe out.
I might be able to access the internet there but I won’t be doing any big posts other than the ones already scheduled to update. I can probably approve comments and answer my emails but that’ll be it until I’m back on the 22nd! Still, I’ve got a few days before I go so I will definitely be around this week.
I’m gonna miss Jack, (boyfriend of almost 4 years,) because I don’t think I’ve gone 2 weeks without seeing him before. :(
I’ll also miss my kitty, Chloe, ‘cos she’s old and gets confused and I love her because she’s broken. She can’t meow and just goes “eh-eh-eh” instead like Ann from Little Britain (Google it,) but she’s still perfect because she’s mine :D Have another picture of her!

I love cats too… Thank you so much for doing these wonderful reviews, we discover new sources thanks to you !!!
Thank you! Unfortunately I’m short on money for a while so can’t buy from the sources I’m checking out right now, but once I get paid I hope to share more hidden plus size clothing retailers! There’s a lot out there if you know where to look.
While I’m not a fan of the clothing, I do appreciate that the hoodie is made for “big hair!” I have lots of thick hair and hoodies were always one thing I wanted to wear but never could pull off well because my hair got in the way.
Me too, I love my long hair but when I have hoods it goes mental and looks terrible :(
